"Dire, Dire Docks" is one of the greatest video game tunes ever written and, subsequently, one of the most heavily remixed video game tunes of all time. Admittedly, we really don't need another remix. But I ask: do we need an absolute dismantling (past the point of recognition) of a tune we've all adored since childhood? Eh, probably not, but I went ahead and made one anyway. :)
I deconstructed the original tune into smaller fragments and chose to focus primarily on the opening 8-or-so-note motif for structural support throughout the track. To tell you the truth, some of you may not even hear the source melody through the incessant "solo wankery" and "ADHD-like" shifts throughout (i.e. my style, *sigh*). But really, I suppose my intent was not to create a perfect sense of nostalgia, but instead a vague familiarity (similar to the sensation of déjà vu). In other words, I wanted pay homage to the original tune but in a way that hadn't been done before (i.e. not your "cookie-cutter mold" of a remix).
[Frankly, you might enjoy the track better if you think of it as less of a remix, but more of a "re-imagining" (or, perhaps, an original composition altogether).] ;)
TL;DR: My complete bastardization of a video game music classic is now available for [free] download. I hope you enjoy listening to "Higher, Drier Socks" as much as I enjoyed writing it.
